Frederick Ellsworth Bigelow (1873 - 1929) played the cornet in numerous New England brass bands. A pharmacist by trade, F.E. Bigelow wrote two marches (the second titled "NC4"). Although his contribution to march literature is small, the trio melody in "Our Director" became one of the most often performed and widely known of all American march melodies. Articulations should be marcato in style and quarter notes played in a detached, almost staccato, manner. Extremes of dynamic contrast are essential. Pay particular attention to the performance of notes in the first and second endings as they end or begin each melodic phrase. Note that the first time through the Trio melody is to be performed with legato articulations in contrast to the marcato style notated when the trumpet section enters at measure 92. Snare drum sticking has been included to help insure the proper 6/8 march feel.

Good Pillows to Show Off Decorative Pillow Shams

Although we have queen-sized beds, we typically use standard-sized pillows. One of the quilt sets I got this Christmas time came with queen sized pillow shams, and the standard pillows just didn't fill them properly. I could have sewn flanges on either side of the shams, but I decided to order these pillows instead. The are almost wide enough to fully fill those shams that started all this additional purchasing. (I also ended up ordering pillow protectors for the queen sized pillows.) The pillows are fluffy and substantial for now. My husband manages to flatten out pillows almost no matter how they start our. For now, so far so good. They re a medium-weight and fullness, I would say. They do a good job of showing off the pillow sham design, so that's a plus. I'm not planning for us to sleep on them, but they are added back support while watching TV. They are primarily for decorative purposes when the bed is made with the quilt and shams. They were a reasonable value for the intended purpose.
