Ornate 19th century French Louis XVI style giltwood mirror, circa 1840s. This large, neoclassical mirror, having a richly carved giltwood frame, features typical elements of the Louis XVI period. The intricately carved and pierced crown depicts a floral wreath with berried laurel branches joined together by a bow tied ribbon. The outer edge of the frame has a les oves border and bold corners enhanced with rosettes and acanthus leaves. The inner border of les perles (beading that resembles a strand of pearls) surrounds the original beveled mirror glass that retains the familiar speckles and spots of truly antique glass. Original patina with red oxidation showing through adds to the charm and authenticity.
