Snareweight #4 is designed to fit with the new and improved pro-lock for die cast hoops as well. Since the 1st designs of 2011, there has been a few improvements to the magnet and magnet enclosure. Recessed screws now anchor the magnet as well as a raised brass lip to prevent from chipping. Also we included what we call the "stabilizer" under the magnet to keep the weight of the snareweight smooth and free of jitter. This also costs more to manufacture but we feel it's worth it.
Other info: Snareweight #4 is the flagship damper offering the most options for dialing in the right amount of dampening quickly.
Snareweight adds mass to the head which helps to evenly smooth the lower-mid ringing frequencies that can't be reached with other methods. The unwanted ring of the high frequencies are shaped by the chosen insert in a snap by matching the insert with a drummers favorite drum head.
From an engineering stand point with the weight of a Snareweight #4, you get about 2-3 db of compression from your drum, which helps to reel it in for optimum recording levels and sitting in the mix without the need for more outboard gear compression. Better to fix it from the source.
