Horween Lux Leather is Veg-tanned using the same vegetable/bark extracts as their shell cordovan. The base leather color is natural with the deep dark brown finish on top. It’s a relatively thick cowhide, like Chromexcel, but it’s buttery soft and gets even softer - it almost feels like deerskin.
From Nick Horween: “Over time the finish will wear and show the lighter base color in some spots and darken in others. The sugary look is intentional (a function of the dye coats and top coats) and stands out particularly because we mill the leather for many hours. This softens the leather nicely, gives it a nice hand, and breaks up the surface giving it pronounced grain.”
