Das Aufsehen erregende Werk El Grecos (1541–1614) wurde erst um 1910 durch Julius Meier-Graefes Tagebuch Spanische Reise von einem breiteren deutschsprachigen Publikum entdeckt. Zahlreiche Künstler erfasste das »Greco-Fieber«, als sie 1911 in München und 1912 in Düsseldorf erstmals in Ausstellungen einer größeren Werkgruppe begegnen konnten: Max Beckmann, Oskar Kokoschka, Max Oppenheimer oder Ludwig Meidner, vor allem aber auch die Vertreter des Blauen Reiter, August Macke, Franz Marc, Albert Bloch und andere, erkannten in El Greco eine Vaterfigur der Moderne, die sie in einem Atemzug mit Paul Cézanne nannten.Der Band stellt das Werk El Grecos in einer gültigen Auswahl von über 40 Gemälden aus den bedeutendsten Museen weltweit vor, gleichzeitig wird die Auseinandersetzung der jungen Künstler mit der Malerei und der Bildwelt des spanischen Ausnahmemalers vorgestellt und ein faszinierender Einblick in den Kampf um die Moderne eröffnet. Good quality but tight on toes

My New Favorite Socks
